Is Invisalign Right For Me?
Although many have heard about how beneficial Invisalign® can be, there are some who still do not go through with treatment as they fear the dental professional will tell them that they are not a good candidate. However, Invisalign® has advanced throughout the years and more people than ever are eligible for treatment.
An overview of Invisalign® treatment
The best way to determine if Invisalign® is right for you is to become more familiar with the issues it can address, the benefits and how the treatment process works, along with discussing treatment with a dental professional. The following is everything to know about Invisalign® treatment.
Issues Invisalign® can fix
For the most part, Invisalign® treats the same issues that traditional braces can address. Additionally, Invisalign® is a great way to fix a range of alignment concerns. Several of the more common issues that it can fix includes:
- Crooked teeth
- Overcrowding
- Spacing issues
- Overbite
- Underbite
Patients with crooked or overcrowded teeth often seek Invisalign® as a way to achieve a straighter smile, and it is effective for most mild to moderate cases. Treatment can also fix issues with gaps between teeth, along with bite complications such as an overbite, underbite or crossbite.
Benefits of Invisalign®
There are many benefits that Invisalign® can offer that other forms of teeth straightening simply cannot. Perhaps the most notable benefit is the ability for the patient to straighten their smile discreetly, whereas traditional braces are highly visible. Unlike metal braces, Invisalign® is also removable, and the patient can eat and practice oral hygiene the same as they did before treatment. In addition to the unique benefits, Invisalign® also provides the patient with a more attractive smile, which helps many feel more confident about their appearance each day.
How the treatment process works
Every patient has a unique experience with Invisalign® treatment. When considering the treatment, it can be helpful to better understand how it works. Invisalign treatment generally begins with a consultation visit. If both the patient and dentist agree on a plan, then a dental impression is taken, which is used to create the 3D image and aligners throughout treatment. The patient then wears the Invisalign® aligners between 20 to 22 hours (minimum) each day until they achieve the smile they desire. New aligners are provided as teeth move into the ideal position. After treatment, the patient is given a retainer to wear as directed to ensure teeth remain in their new position.
Who is an ideal candidate?
Invisalign® is intended primarily for individuals with a mild to moderate misalignment, and it may not be the most ideal for severe cases. It is also typically better for older teenagers and adults, whereas braces generally make a better option for younger children. Additionally, those who want to straighten their smile with discretion may prefer Invisalign®.
