Smilow Family Dentistry Discusses Advances in Oral Surgery

Oral SurgeryAt Smilow Family Dentistry, P.C., we provide patients throughout Springfield Township with oral surgery in order to address a variety of cosmetic dentistry and health concerns.  Not every dentist performs oral surgery so whether you are an existing patient or in need of a specialist, call (973) 379-2202 to schedule a consultation and see how we can be of assistance.

In our Springfield Township, NJ office we are experts at performing oral surgery but will only do so after examining your teeth and gums, treating any emergency health concerns and ensuring that surgery is indeed, the best option for you.  At times, less invasive procedures are available, and we will discuss these options with you. If it is determined that oral surgery is necessary, we will provide you with sedation during your procedure so that you can either be completely asleep or so drowsy that you will nod off and remain entirely comfortable.

The most common oral surgery that we perform at Smilow Family Dentistry, P.C is placing dental implants.  In this procedure, a metal post is implanted under the gums and secured to the jawbone in order to replace a missing tooth.  The metal post and bone will eventually fuse together through the process of osseointegration, and as they do, a new permanent root system is created.  Once your gums have healed, and osseointegration is complete, a new tooth will be attached at the surface of your gums.  It will both look and behave like a natural tooth for your comfort.

We also treat patients throughout the 07081 area that need to have oral surgery for a wisdom tooth extraction.  Most people do not need their third molars and subsequently don’t have room for them to grow in.  In this case, they tend to grow in sideways or impacted, creating discomfort and the risk for an infection.  We can perform oral surgery to remove these teeth by creating a flap in the gum tissue, lifting it up, and either pulling the wisdom tooth out as one piece or cutting it into several before removing them.  We will then replace the flap and suturing the area.  Regardless of why you need to have oral surgery, we are the Springfield Township expert that can ensure that the procedure goes smoothly, and you recover quickly.
